When installed properly, Myrtle Beach, you’ll get beautiful and long lasting flooring, but some common DIY mistakes can add to the bill, as well as negatively impact the appearance of your floor, leading to unnecessary replacement.
● Don’t cut corners. Cutting any corners is never a good idea. One person had a tiny urban kitchen and when she got to the right-hand side, being left-handed (“and ridiculously left-brained”), she just couldn’t visualize it to make the necessary calculations.
She eventually got so fed up she threw the whole thing out and hired a flooring installation service to do the job.
● Expansion: Not always a great thing. Hardwood expands or contracts to adjust to the climate. Acclimation is easy process, and eliminates this problem, but this time it was neglected.
The hardwood expanded, making it almost impossible to fit the planks and, when they were forced, it resulted in a crooked floor.
The subfloor was also never prepared properly, so the floor squeaked because of gaps, and rubbing by loose and misaligned planks.
Hardwood floors are considered the ultimate stylish and long-lasting residential flooring installation, but not in this case.
● Speaking of subfloors- The subfloor is where the kitchen appliances are attached. It’s especially important to measure and install accurately so that the surface floor fits properly. This DIY Enthusiast did not, the surface floor was uneven, and the cabinets no longer fit.
New cabinets had to be bought and a new floor needed to be installed.
● What’s that smell? Regular, professional cleaning is critical to the life of a carpet. This person neglected it, creating a dull, worn, matted rug that always looked dirty.
It also incurred veterinarian bills, because the owner tried DIY cleaning and used too much soap. It also wasn’t rinsed or dried well, so mold grew, creating a horrible smell.
There were even veterinarian bills; his dog constantly coughed and gagged from soap residue and mold.
